Celebrating Puanga or the Maori New Year

We went to the Cosmodome at the Museum. It was really dark inside. Some of us thought it was spooky.

We looked at lots of interesting things on the ceiling and walls of the cosmodome. The computer told us stories and lots of interesting information.

Some of us invented space craft after our visit. They are all different.

This is a page from a story about Marariki. This page tells of ways to celebrate the Maori New Year. We decided to make some Pumpkin and Carrot soup to share.

Kevin and Binuka are taking the seeds out of the pumpkin and removing the skin. We used two spoons to scrape the pulp.

These boys are grating the carrots for the pot. They did not grate their fingers luckily.

The soup is bubbling and smells Yum!

Our teacher blended the soup to make it thick with the Kitchen Whizz.

Baylen tastes it and said he liked the flavour.

Rinoa said it was really hot and had to blow to make it cooler to eat.

We are having fun sharing food and a laugh together.

Some of us wanted more. There was plenty of soup left for everyone.

Term 2 Activities in Room 6 2015

We made Kumera Chips in our class. Many of us had not tried them before. We had to peel the skin off the chips. Some of us found that tricky. We had to concentrate.

The chips went into the air frier and we added a little cooking oil. The frier turned the chips over as it went around. They smelled delicious while they were cooking.

We ate them with sauce. Hayz is ready to take an enormous bite.
Some of the kumera were orange and some were yellow. Most of us liked the yellow ones best.

Maui and the Sun.

Alex made an amazing spacecraft out of Lego. Great work Alex.

We love doing Hockey Skills.

Our Inquiry is about the night sky. We made some neat Rocket Ships. Can you see the glitter star patterns?

Our class has been busy Challenging ourselves to keep persisting. We spent a morning drawing. We did illustrations in our poem books and drew illustrations from stories in our Journals. We kept going and were pleased with our efforts.
